October 1, Tuesday - The wind shifted and we had a restless night - hard to sleep through.  Sailed off early to Parson’s Creek for shelter and calm water.  I put water on to boil and we both had coffee and came up with a plan for the day.  We sailed all the way up river to Gary Creek and stopped at the Spocott Windmill - visited all the other buildings on the site.

We left Gary Creek and motored over to Smith Cove.  What a beautiful spot!  Tied up alongside Sanity, Ken and I talked about books and boats - had a cold beer and relaxed for awhile.  I left about 5 PM and found an equally beautiful anchorage for the night.  Other than a duck blind on the point of this cove I’m anchored in, I’m surrounded by trees, marsh, and a view of about a mile down the cove with no sign of man.  Very quiet.  Plan to read awhile and get a good night’s sleep.

          October 2nd, Wednesday -
Last night’s anchorage was perfect!  It turns out that this is not Smith Cove, just another no-name cove or small creek off the river - it will be noted on my chart and in my log as Ken’s Cove.  Had a nice sail down river, wind right on the nose so long tacks from one bank to the other with time to relax and take in the scenery.  I read my new SWS newsletter (early delivery from Ken!) as Shorebird sailed herself.  The further out into the river we got the the lighter the breeze became until finally the the whole river glassed over as the wind died completely.

We fired up the engines and motored the last few miles to the Slaughter Creek ramp.  With no breeze the heat was very noticeable - 90 degrees in October!  As I turned in to Chapel Cove I crossed my outbound path and my circumnavigation of Taylor Island (and alot more!) was completed.  I celebrated with a little nip of brandy from my Scottish flask and poured a splash into the creek as an offering of thanks.  Had a wonderful three day sail.
